Almost decided on Stablehost… and other questions

Big on Hosting. Unlimited Space & Unlimited Bandwidth

This finding a shared host supplier is a nightmare! I didn’t realise there were so many host companies out there. I worry that the ones that come recommended on this forum are either new start-ups that could fold at any time, or have only been recommended because the poster has a vested interest in them, so how can I find independent reviews? I was told to check the reviews on this forum but I see no review section. Am I going blind? Can someone point the review section out to me?

One company that came up a few times was Stablehost. I was almost ready to commit and then my Vaultpress backup came back telling me my main WordPress website is 22Gb. This put me outside their recommended VPS deal and into very expensive domain/website hosting. I know this is bloated but I don’t have time at the moment to go through and delete the unnecessary files, so I may have to knock Stablehost on the head (I’m awaiting a response from them).

Crocweb has also been mentioned a few times too. Does being based in Canada make any difference to me? I’m British, living in Malaysia, with many readers in the States and Europe, so does any of that matter? I’ve been chatting to their sales people and it does seem I can use Vaultpress to do an easy transfer to their servers. Anyone with any experience of Vaultpress and how easy it is to do this?

Finally, I quickly checked out Hawkhost. They seem like a viable option too.

It seems I should be looking for servers that run on Litespeed, have cPanel, and hosts who can make the complete website transfer over for me without me having to do the dloading and uploading of that rather large Vaultpress backup (my current host doesn’t have cPanel).

Any comments on these hosts? Any alternatives?
