CPanel MX Records

Big on Hosting. Unlimited Space & Unlimited Bandwidth

Hi all,

I am moving my cpanel website to a new non-cpanel host. The domain’s MX records are configured in Cpanel to point to an email host ie different to the website host, but I am not changing the MX server only the website server.

I think that changing the DNS records would make the current CPanel MX records ineffective so I think I need to add the MX records to the new host at the same time as I change the DNS records – have I got that right?

When I change the DNS and add the MX records to the new host would there be a period of downtime ie where emails will fail and if so how long would this be? I know that changing MX server can bring several hours of downtime but here I am not changing the MX server (it is staying the same) – I am just copying the MX records from one host to another.

Any ideas please?

Thank you…
