Hey Everyone,

Classic case once again of “fixing/improving/upgrading” something that worked as it should and breaking it. Also the classic case of “upgrading” to a completely different animal. Changing everything is neither a version change or an upgrade…it’s a different program/script.

My thoughts;

– interface is annoying
– features are missing
– not able to delete logs for testing purposes

the biggest huge colossal factor
– no more free support

Where can I get help if something goes wrong?
Official support for this plugin is available for iThemes Security Pro customers. Our team of experts is ready to help.
Free support may be available with the help of the community in the WordPress.org support forums (Note: this is community-provided support. iThemes does not monitor the WordPress.org support forums).

That is the slap in the face. Destroy the plugin, let people download a somewhat beta version, and then force people to pay for support.

BUT my usual other side of the fence also knows that free plugin support is a HUGE favor from plugins programmer. Many people don’t realize how much support actually costs, and a lot of the free plugins were side projects to fulfill a need and some were fortunate to become popular. A lot of times the plugin’s programmer lands a fulltime job and no longer has time to maintain the plugin…which is where forks come in….but at least with forks, someone else was willing to take on the challenge and give the plugin new-continuous life. In this case, almost a classic EIG move, buy something that works and destroy it.

Many plugins go through this everyday. It fails or become outdated, find another one that does the job. Case closed. The issue…this plugin has become very popular and most recommended in the last 2 years, so I can only imagine the aftermath of this.

Another other side of the fence….there are many server side ways to implement what this plugin does, but for common user, it’s a strong kick in the a**.

For anyone that has upgraded to the iThemes version, you can rollback to the previous version

That’s my Friday/WordPress rant. Thoughts…Good…Negative.
