FTP Activity Logging

Big on Hosting. Unlimited Space & Unlimited Bandwidth

I am new to the forum and might be asking something that has been answered before, so please forgive if this is the case.

Several of my sites were hacked a little over 6 months ago. All html files were infected with code, etc.

So, I developed a strategy on one of the sites of doing a directory via FTP of my site and comparing the current dir with the last uploaded dir and doing a file by file comparison within the two files to see if anyone had modified my files in any way. I check it once every day I am at work and since the first hack I have not had any problems.

Today, I checked it and almost every file had been modified. I had scripts in place to delete all the files off the website and to upload clean files and did so immediately.

I called the webhosting company to see if they could help me and assure me that my site had been hacked or maybe someone did some file maintenance on my site and merely touched all the time stamps. I asked them for logs to reveal if anyone had access to my files and the only ones they had available showed the traffic to the site but they had no log to show me any FTP activity.

I inquired further and they told me they do not have that service. I called another web hosting company and they told me the same thing — no FTP logging.

Can anyone suggest something that may help me track this acitivity? To me it seems like an essential piece of information for security of one’s website.

Thank you,
