Given legalities, his age *IS* an issue. But as you say, it almost comes second to the (utter lack of) maturity.

About the EOL on servers — one of my favorite servers is 6-7 years old now. There’s honestly nothing wrong with using an older dedicated box. “Old” enterprise hardware is a heck of a lot better than new desktop hardware! I check the logs often, and monitor for hardware faults — so far, so good. It may be in use for another year or two. Some hosts let you pick these up for a song.

Yesterday, I went to a local pawn shop — it was across the street from the auto repair place, and I had an hour to kill. (Went to several places.) Inside, they were selling a broken HDTV — huge crack in the screen, had a sign “does not power on” — for $99.

What sort of idiot would pay for that?
