Why do people (mostly novice users?) still choose the services of HostGator? The site I host has been slow like S**** for the past 40 hrs. It’s clear they are overselling.
I’ve just had more free time and went to their website for support. I tried to start a ticket – NO WAY – they ask me to provide billing password. Ok, I click on the Skip button and see:
Estimated Wait Time: 17 min.
I don’t even bother waiting 17 min because I know the conversation would be like:
Me: My site is unresponsive, how can you help?
HostGator: Hello Sir, sorry about that. What is your billing password and domain please?
Me: Do you remember your billing passwords, seriously?
HostGator: It’s our policy. That way we can pretend we provide support.
Me: Ok, here it is: SLOWHOST.
HostGator: Ok, thank you. I see there are some issues with your service. Please login to your support area (using your billing password) and start a new ticket.
Me: Are you f*** kidding me? I’ve just wasted 17 minutes + 15 minutes on your replies and we are still at the same point?
HostGator: Sorry sir. You need to open a ticket.
Disconnected…
Anyway, HostGator is like a government agency – no real support, nobody cares. They are too big to provide a meaningful support.
// end of frustration. The site is still slow like Snail but at least someone listened ; )
