Hosting a family domain

Big on Hosting. Unlimited Space & Unlimited Bandwidth
Hi, I’ve hosted a domain for I think about a decade now, shea.rs. They guy I hosted it with (Adam Gould, IWHS) has had to jack it in, he’s not getting the support from his provider that he was used to.

I asked him if he had any suggestions as to an alternative, he suggested I post here.

I prefer to deal with sole traders/small companies – the prices are good and there is the personal touch.

The domain is hardly used at all – most people with my surname use my other domain, shears.org, which is hosted with 1&1. I’ve really only nabbed shea.rs to prevent it being taken by someone who isn’t a Shears.

<<snipped>> The annual traffic is of the order of kilobytes, not megabytes. I prefer Linux and cPanel as an interface.

Most of the users of shears.org are kids, but kids grow up and might want a name which is a bit more professional-sounding when they start their own businesses. That being said, two users use shears.org as their trading names and haven’t had any problems (one sells houses in Florida, the other sells cars in Lancashire). I expect shea.rs to remain a very low-usage domain, but this could change when ten-year-olds become 25-year-olds..

I have offered the domains to other people with my surname, so they could have total control of their own domain. No takers: everyone seems to be happy that I retain control. The use of sub-domains remains negligible, all three domains are almost entirely used for e-mail.

Yours,

Richard
