Hi,
I have a small photoblog at WP.com that I would like to move to self-hosted WordPress. There are roughly 25 posts, and few pages. Nothing fancy.
As of now, my traffic ranges between 150 and 200 per day. Since it is mostly images with not much text, and since I have pathetic SEO skills, I do not expect it to rise much anyway.
So, I have been looking for hosting options, and I have shortlisted a few. I would like to hear the community’s views regarding these choices, to help me narrow down and pick the ideal one. Also, if there is a good host that I missed, please do advise!
1. euroVPS
2. CrocWeb
3. StableHost
Furthermore, I am confused if I should consider “managed WordPress hosting” too, especially because self-hosted WP sites are hacked so often? Will opting for WP Engine or another managed host be a better choice in terms of security and safety? Or am I just panicking for no reason?
Some more info:
1. I need proper uptime. Nothing is more troublesome than migrating to a host and realizing that you were better off at WP.com in terms of uptime.
2. I’m from India, but my audience is mostly European. Should I take this factor into account and eliminate CrocWeb, because they have servers only in Canada?
3. My budget is variable. I am willing to even invest in $29 per month for WP Engine if it’s needed, though I’ll obviously be happier with $5.95 per month pricing if it doesn’t cause much trouble and works fine.
4. I cannot pay via PayPal. VISA debit cards are the only option.
5. No intention of running any CMS other than WP.
6. WP plugins I’ll use: Jetpack, Yoast SEO, Better WP Security
7. From security perspective, is managed WP hosting the way to go? Many managed WP hosts, such as Synthesis, have blog posts stating that shared hosts are pretty bad for WP sites etc etc.
Thanks!
Edit: I’m also considering SiteGround, but have not heard much about them.
