HostMonster automatically upgrading Joomla installations

Big on Hosting. Unlimited Space & Unlimited Bandwidth

A friend forwarded me an e-mail that she got from HostMonster stating that her Joomla 1.5 installation will be upgraded by HostMonster AUTOMATICALLY to the latest 2.5 release.

As the website in question depends heavily on third party extensions, this automatic upgrade will almost certainly break her website!

To my mind this is completely and utterly unacceptable for the hosting company to modify HER data on HER website which she needs to make a living, without her consent.

I have advised her to create a full backup of her website immediately and I will look into trying to disable this automatic update procedure.

Is this practice standard amongst hosting providers? It seems like incredibly poor practice, however well-intentioned it is (1.5 is out of date and vulnerable).
