Need a new host recommendation urgently. Victim of Bluehost

Big on Hosting. Unlimited Space & Unlimited Bandwidth
Hello folks. Obviously I am new here and this is my first post. I have been reading though the various threads and need some advice if you will.

I run an e-commerce business. My sole source of income comes through my website. I am currently with Bluehost.com with their BluePro service which is their upgraded shared service. I have been with them for 5 or 6 years and have been happy for the most part but I have an issue and am looking to change.

I am currently running Joomla 1.5.26 with Virtuemart 1.1.9 and a lot of added components for functionality. I have some extra security software installed. I have a dev site set up and am in the process of migrating to Joomla 2.5x and Virtuemart 2.x. I have the site mostly migrated but have not had the chance to fine tune it and go live.

Therein lies my problem. I got an e-mail from Bluehost Friday evening at 7:30 pm telling me that Joomla 1.5.26 was a security risk (I agree in standard set-up but have the security covered for the moment) and that starting Monday they would be doing a force migration to J2.5 for all site still on 1.5.26. This infuriated me since they did not give me advance notice. Three days? Come on!! It is going to be impossible for me to get it all up and running and if they update my Joomla to 2.5, my entire site will go down since VM1.1.9 will not run under J2.5 and PHP 5.4. That puts me out of business for at least a week until I can get things up again. NOT HAPPY AT ALL.

I called and spoke to tech support and they said their was nothing they could do. I then spoke to a supervisor and they said there was nothing they could do. They said my only option would be to switch to a VPS with them.

I have been loyal for quite a while and have built over 15 sites for friends, all hosted on Bluehost at my recommendations. It is now time to leave. I am also looking for much better performance. Everything I do from managing inventory, dealing with orders, etc happen online. Sometimes things are crawling speed wise. I want better performance. I know Joomla/Virtuemart very well but do not know much of anything about server management. I am afraid of a VPS and frankly, don’t know if I even need it. I do need a faster, better host though.

My site is not huge I guess. I don’t know if this is small, medium, large, or what? It is fairly popular but is a niche market. Business is growing tremendously and i expect to be adding more content in the near future. Here are my recent usage stats from AWStats:

Average unique visitors per month: 5,036
Average number of visitors per month: 11,200
Average page loads per month: 135,780
Average bandwidth usage per month: 5.01 GB
Current disk space usage: 11,960.24 MB

I have 3 databases, 6 e-mail addresses, and 7 domains. The 7 domains are all “parked” redirected to my main domain. I have a dedicated IP.

Would I be wise to go with a VPS? I have a friend that is a server administrator that might be able to help with the server portion. Just not sure I need VPS. I need someplace that will allow me to continue to use Joomla 1.5.26 with php 5.2 for about a month. Are there any really good, fast, shared hosting providers that will meet my needs? Should I switch to VPS? Is it as scary and I think it might be? I am very good with computers and am confident that I can learn server management but am not there now.

I would also love to have a service with my own mail server. Currently, I get a lot of rejected e-mails because the ip address that I happen to use that day is blacklisted due to it being a shared mail server. I would rather not have to suffer the consequences of some spammer’s actions when I send e-mail. I know I can use something like Google Apps for Business if I needed to.

I am not looking for $7 per month hosting and do not mind paying a fair price for the service I need. I am currently paying $19.99 pr month I believe and would not have any issue paying $50 per month if it is warranted. I don’t want to throw away money, of course.

So, to re-cap my needs:
-ability to stay with Joomla 1.5.26 and php 5.2 for the short term (month or so)
-5+ GB bandwidth per month and growing
-12 GB disk space and growing
-dedicated IP
-faster speeds
-e-mail that does not get blacklisted unless I screw up
-at least 7 domains, all pointing to a main site
-3 or so databases

Sorry for the long thread! What advice, if any, would you be able to give me? Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
