Hostgator is gone – totally screwed. All my sites are down, mails not working and on top of that no support!

I am looking for a fast alternative. Initially will host 2 domains and if things look good i will shift all sites.

Suggestions?

Take a look at the Shared Hosting Offers section: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4

You will find many good offers, just make sure to make a research about the web host before you sign up.

It’s a shame to see a once reputed company steadily go downhill.

Since they were purchased, there just seems to be complaint after complaint.

There are several reputable providers here on WHT that would easily replace them and would fit your needs.

Just remember to check for reviews here on WHT before choosing any host!

If that’s the route you want to take, be sure to look for a host with some sort of money-back guarantee. Make sure there are no hidden terms like “we’ll refund 100% of your money less a 50% processing fee” or some such garbage. Also, keep in mind that a lot of hosts that offer free domains will require you to pay for that domain if you cancel within a certain number of days. All of this should be clearly disclosed in their TOS. If not, don’t hesitate to ask them.

“Fast” these days usually means you’re running on a host with an accelerated web server like nginx or LiteSpeed. SSD can also go a long way. However, neither of these things by themselves make a server fast; if the host overloads the server or hasn’t optimized anything, it’s going to be slow no matter what. Be careful here — a lot of hosts know that a lot of customers will see words like “nginx” and “SSD” and immediately assume that those words mean “fast”. Do your homework and search for reviews on the company, or ask them for more details.

Any company worth going with will be more than willing to talk to you in depth about their hosting solution. It’s your money, after all, so you deserve a decent service.

If you can provide us with more details about your preferred location / budget / etc, we’ll be happy to throw some suggestions your way.

^This. And even after you research, it also helps if you contact the host first before signing up. Chat with their sales staff a bit and ask questions so you know what to expect.

I have dome some searching in Google. Why i am posting is because i need uptodate status of any Web host which only active members can provide. As the case of Hostgator shows, once reputed web host may not be so good currently.

Regarding the requirements – i have a dedicated account running with them, which i will shift slowly. For the moment i want to see how it goes with a new host. As i will be hosting only 2 domains something in the range of $10/month would be good. Need 99.99% uptime. Support for php5.5. And yes – support must be very good – this is wher HG is slipping too. Only this morning their technical support closed chat without bothering to answer my question or before i could reply. That really sucks.

How much disk space and bandwidth do you need?

Pretty much every other host today is a good HostGator alternative
Site5’s good, MDDHosting, KnownHost, FreshRoastedHosting.
Can’t go wrong with any of these.

Just make sure you don’t go to a company like BlueHost or iPage. They are owned by EIG, just like HostGator, so their quality is the same. You can find a list of their brands on Wikipedia.
