Newbie here — what to do after domain name expires?

OK, here is the story. The new registrar was a ResellerClub reseller and the old registrar was a local hosting provider. Before you can transfer a domain to RC, an email is sent to the admin contact to confirm ownership. The problem: the local hosting provider had their own email address as admin contact (I was still the registrant though). I sent countless emails and called them many times to explain what I needed from them, but they always said “that shouldn’t happen with a domain transfer” and “we’ll forward that email”. Only after three weeks did they forward the email. And this happened ~1.5 years ago.

That was the longest transfer I ever had and probably a worst case scenario.

NetworkSolution is at second place though. They say they will send the transfer code to your email within three days, only to call you a week later and try and upsell you before sending the key a few days after that.
