recommended hosting for a WordPress directory site

Big on Hosting. Unlimited Space & Unlimited Bandwidth

I am planning to build a directory website, and do not know what type of hosting I should be looking for. I am concerned that, even with low traffic, a directory site may be too resource intensive for a standard shared hosting plan.

The directory will have ~6000 entries. It will be based on the Directory Portal WordPress theme, or something similar. (As a new forum member, I do not have the permission to link to the theme)

I am looking for hosting that will provide a minimum of downtime, and allow pages to load quickly. I do not know how much traffic the site will see, but hope that it will grow over time. I would like to spend only as much as I need to for reliable and headache free hosting.

Would it be wise to start with a standard shared hosting package, and move to more robust hosting as traffic increases? If standard shared hosting is not a good starting point, what specific features and capabilities should I be looking for?

Thank you for your help!
