Hello all,

I currently run a website on a VPS that is accepting 6,500 visitors on a daily basis. On the same site, I’ve also got another site which has an average of 2,000 visitors per day.

Both sites run on the Joomla CMS platform.

I occasionally run into Internal Server errors 500 and my provider tells me that this is because the VPS is hitting it’s limits.

The problem I am having is that I have no clear indication as to if I need a higher performance VPS or if its time to move to a dedicated server.

When speaking with various providers, they tell me that a high-end VPS is much faster than a standard Dedicated server (e.g 4gig ram, 2 cores etc), others say that a dedicated server is much better and faster and will make page load times a lot faster.

On the other side, there are also CND networks, perhaps a VPS + CDN would be a much better result and possibly cheaper;

So, I’m a bit mixed up and do not know which way I really need to go, which is why I’m turning to this community. How can I understand if my VPS is not really enough? What metrics should I be looking at really?

If anyone can shed some light I would be really greatful!

Comments and suggestions are much appreciated!

Chris.
