Kind of giving into blackmail it sounds like.. I think you need to read your contracts and explore your options.

EDIT: If what he is doing is outside of the contract AND you don’t actually owe him any money then a nice cease and desist letter might change his attitude real quick. At that point it would be advisable to try and get ownership of your domain and files.

I have deals with customers where they don’t own their actual site however, I develop the site and, in a way, they lease it from me.
