I’m looking for a new host and am having some difficulty figuring out what features I should be seeking.
My site is pretty basic – small e-commerce business (1 gb disk space and 20-25 gb bandwidth). I don’t need a lot of resources, but keeping it up and running as fast as possible is a big priority of mine. I don’t mind paying up to $30/month for hosting, as long as I’m getting what I want for my money.
I’m guessing that shared hosting with a dedicated IP address is fine (what I have now). But, when looking at factors like reliability, service and speed, I’m uncertain how to choose a company. I see “cloud hosting” advertised by some. How does this differ from regular hosting? Is is a big deal to look for servers running lightspeed? How about SSD drives, are they going to be worth seeking a host with that option? Are there other hardware options that I should be looking for in a server that will enhance the speed or reliability? Should I stay away from a host out of the US (where I’m located)?
Sorry for so many questions, but these are the things that I’m wondering about before I make a decision.
Thanks,
